(i'm aware some of these aren't blogs, per se, but they do have bloggy content) also, now that i have dial-up i hate to spend a whole minute downloading a new post just for it to be 3 lines long. with no pictures. yes i know i have few pictures, and the few i do have suck. i'm working on that. . .

mama's favorite dishcloth

i knit very tightly so doing a k2tog is a pain! i decided to come up with a pattern adjustment that would allow me to knit a grandmother's favorite dishcloth without having to do the k2tog rigmarole twice on the way back down. so instead of yo'ing to increase on the way up, i decided to knit one front and back so as not to make the hole. i learned to knit on youtube in a strange continental method that i didn't realize was strange until i tried to find videos about how to do different things and realized that even continental used a mini-throw and the way i learned uses a picking movement. any how, here it shows how to do the k1fb, aka bar increase, and i just do my picking 'til i get to the part where i'm to knit into the back of the stitch and then i do it the way the video shows. when/if i figure out how to take a decent picture of it, i'll post one.

OCDastination, pronounced oc-das-ti-na-tion, is when you never get around to starting a project because your OCD flares up and you spend so long trying to decide which yarn, which needles, what stitch, what color, what size, what pattern, and so on and so forth, that you get disgusted with it before you ever cast on or chain the first stitch. this is also why i have a dishcloth 3/4 of the way done, i realized just now that i purled when i should have knit and i have a ridge across the damn thing and i don't want to frog back to the mistake but i don't care to finish it with a mistake. no wonder i have never and most likely never will knit anything more convoluted than a cabled dishcloth. . .

i learned to crochet a chain when i was small

i didn't learn to actually "crochet" anything so i tried to make a slip stitch blanket

i just discovered, this year (2007) that i was doing it all wrong and could have been getting really good at it all this time

stoopid test

how hard would it be for a 2nd grade teacher to issue a spelling list with all of the words spelled right?? pretty fuggin' hard apparently because turtle's teacher hasn't done it all year i don't think! take, for instance, last week's imaginary word chaulk. what the fugg??? like google asked when i searched for it, i was thinking, Did you mean: chalk? caulk i get but don't know why it'd be on a 2nd grade spelling list, chalk i get. . . but chaulk? turns out it was chalk. this week we practiced slaw all week and found out to-friggin'-day (thursday, the day before the friggin' test) that it's actually claw!! there were more that i don't recall. if i'd known this was going to be a regular thing i'd have kept track. if she can't spell them, how the hell does she expect a bunch of 8 year olds to spell them? if she just missed the mistakes, that tells me she doesn't care enough to check the list before she passes it out. i remember a time or few getting a freebie on a test because the teacher typed the test up stoned or something and fugged it up. but every damned week?

that's better. (not sure why the pic is sideways, just tilt your head til i figure it out. . .) these fit oranges instead of marshmallows. these hats and the blue button top hat were knitted on the blue loom. these were done in standard e-wrap 1/1, the blue one was a flat stitch. what a difference!!

in my attempt to make preemie sized hats, i think i over-smalled it a bit. . . this hat is about two inches tall and that's a yarn covered button on top!

adventures in loom knitting

during my third pregnancy i discovered loom knitting. i had been searching desperately for some craft that i could stick with and enjoy while doing something productive. after trying hemp jewelry, scrapbooking, cross stitching, and myriad other things, i discovered knitting. i had tried crocheting before but couldn't make my stitches even enough to make a pretty piece. i even checked out a book on knitting in hastings. there were, i swear, 5 pages on HOW TO HOLD THE NEEDLES!!!! then you have to learn how to knit! sheesh. with my looms, i finished the first project i ever started, a pink and red hat for my younger daughter. i then made a hat and scarf for my older daughter, and a hand full of hats and a blanket for the baby boy i was expecting. then i discovered a slew of different stitches and made a scarf for my best friend and have started two blankets and hat and bootie sets for my preemie niece and nephew. i have several projects in the works, including a blanket for another niece and blankets for just about everyone else i know. . . (still a bit limited. . .)
